UCPN (Maoist) leader Baburam Bhattarai has alleged that the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML have abducted the Constituent Assembly (CA) and trying to murder it.
Bhattarai said that the ruling parties are trying to revive the constitution of 1990. They have more or less murdered the CA. He claimed that the ruling parties are trying to move forward by breaching the rules and methods of CA.
Bhattarai said so while addressing the agitating cadres affiliated to the UCPN (Maoist) led alliance of 30 political parties in Bijuli Bazaar, Kathmandu on Tuesday.
He said that they have protested from the parliament and their agitation will continue. He added that the former King Gyanendra could make a comeback because of the NC and UML.
Leader Bhattarai warned that the opposition party will resort to revolt if the ruling parties try to cling to power. “We are holding the agitation within and outside the Constituent Assembly to ensure the identity-based federalism in the new constitution.”
He accused the ruling parties of trying to convert the CA into a parliament. “We can’t see the murder of CA by violating the past pacts,” he added.
He claimed that the ruling parties refused to forward the other agreed issues except for the form of government and federalism. “They [NC and UML] did not agree to take forward the agreed issues to the constitution drafting committee,” said Bhattarai. “But it is possible to bring out a draft of constitution on January 22.”
He charged that the concept of decentralisation is being imposed by covering with a mask of federalism.
