Dismayed at the Supreme Court’s interim order and President Ram Baran Yadav’s recent activities, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli on Tuesday warned both the institutions to stay away from politics while performing their given responsibilities.

Oli, who returned from Bangkok after a health check-up, argued that the apex court’s recent interim order to halt the constitution writing process was an “objectionable move”. He also came down heavily on the head of state and reminded him of his ceremonial role in the constitution.

On a different note, Oli expressed his dissatisfaction at President Ram Baran Yadav’s statement in response to the court order. Oli said, advising President Yadav not to involve in politics. The head of state has been expressing his dissatisfaction at four major parties’ 16-point agreement which seeks to federate the country into eight provinces and promulgate the new constitution at the earliest.

The parties have also reached an understanding to share the key positions of President, Vice President, prime minister, Speaker and deputy Speaker among the major parties, and form a national consensus government.

Yadav, who was elected the President in 2008 for a two-year term, has been in office for over seven years with the prolonged statute drafting process. The Interim Constitution has no provision to elect the new head of state before a new constitution is promulgated.
