Chinese Vice Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Shi Yaobin arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon to hold discussions on establishment of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank with senior government officials of Nepal.
The Chinese Vice Minister was consulted with Nepali officials on various aspects of providing Chinese technical and economic cooperation in Nepal's development endeavours.
China has proposed a US $ 50 billion fund to invest in various infrastructures aimed at regional economic development, and 10 countries will contribute to this fund.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang had last October proposed an Infrastructure Investment Bank to link Asian countries with roads and other infrastructure.
Vice Minister Shi was welcomed at the Tribhuwan International Airport by Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai, senior officials of the Chinese embassy and Nepal's Finance Ministry Under Secretary Tara Sapkota.
CIAA arrests six officials of Purbanchal University including VC
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested six officials of Purbanchal University including vice chancellor Maheshwor Man Shrestha.
According to a statement issued by the anti-corruption body on Tuesday, the other arrested officials include registrar Niroj Pandey, exam comptroller Mohan Bahadur Basnet, dean at the Faculty of Science and Technology Shuva Narayan Pathak and assistant dean Rajesh Kumar Jha and dean at the Faculty of Management Shyam Bahadur Katwal.
Shrestha, Pandey, Basnet and Jha have already been suspended, while the CIAA is looking for one more dean at the Faculty of Law, Shambhu Prasad Koirala, who is at large now.
Six-member delegation off to India
A six-member delegation under the leadership of Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Krishna Gyawali, has left for New Delhi, India.
The delegation left for India to study regarding the new developed structures about the Special Economic Zone.
The Nepali delegation, which is on study visit till May 29, will acquire information with Indian officials about the establishment of SEZ in India and role played by it in economic development.
The government is in final preparation to bring SEZ into operation at Bhairahawa, it is learnt.
The delegation will visit Commerce Secretary, Rajeev Kher, and Secretary at the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Amitabh Kant, among others and discuss about various issues including the role to be played by both countries for overall industrial development.
Joint-Secretary at the Industry Ministry, Jeet Bahadur Thapa, and Executive Director at SEZ, Shankar Man Shrestha, among others are in the team.
